Week of 11/4//13-11/8/13 (2nd Quarter -Week 3)

6th Graders,

We are entering week 3 of the quarter.  It is flying by.  Before you know it, I will be handing out reports again.  Anyway, read through this blog, there is a lot going on including a new homework assignment, your run of the week and fitness activity of the week.  Let's have a good week.        

BLOG FORM
This is a quick reminder to please fill out the form at the end of this blog after you finish reading it.  Not filling out the form will lead to a loss of participation points.

WEEKEND PUSH-UP CHALLENGE
I am so proud of how many of you have been doing this challenge.  It is going to benefit you significantly.  

How many of you completed 25 or more push-ups to match your weekly total?  If you haven't yet, get down and do them.  Don't cheat your body.

JUMP ROPE UPDATE
I am going to be working on getting your jump rope performance videos online and then I am planning to create an assignment.  It takes a while to upload them.  If you want them sooner to take home, bring your flash drive and I will put it on there for you.

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
This week starts a unit called "Field Games" which is a unit that all 6th graders will be participating in.  I am not sure what all the activities will be, but, I will keep you posted. 

This week we will be focusing on Lacrosse Skills.  This is a great game to to play on a grass field.  Lacrosse is a pretty tough game and takes skill.  Just the throwing and catching part is difficult.  

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?

RUNNING CLUB STARTING SOON!!!
I am starting a lunch time running/conditioning program at lunch in a couple of weeks.  This is going to be a great club to improve your overall run times, improve your overall fitness level and/or be a better athlete in any of the sports that you may participate in.  It will be on the morning announcements when I have a meeting for this club.  Please think about coming out for this!!
WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
This week is the Bear Fit Challenge #2 on the blacktop at my roll call area. 

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
Yes, click HERE and do HW #1 in the 2nd Quarter Box.  It is due next monday, 11/11 at roll call.  This is a longer assignment, so please don't procrastinate.  

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK
No, nothing is due this week.

I am putting a lot of effort into making a new series of 15 minute Home Workout Videos called "Fit In 15."  They are perfect to use when you have a busy schedule and/or want to cross train for another sport.   Please subscribe to my YouTube channel and look for the newest Fit In 15 videos to be posted.  To see the latest Fit In 15, watch the video below.

Extra Credit:  There is a Fit In 15 Extra Credit Assignment posted on the Extra Credit page under "Little" Assignments.  Click HERE to check out the assignment.  Fill out this sheet and you will get extra credit.  Make sure that you have this sheet with you while you are doing the Fit In 15 workout b/c you have to keep track of your reps.

We are getting very close to the Flu Season.  It is important that you know some tips to take care of yourself.  The flu can be nasty and keep you out of school for a while.  Read this ARTICLE on the flu for some good advice and pointers.
