6th Graders,
Well, what a long break. I hope that you enjoyed your time off. I had a great time. I spent a lot of time with family and friends. Also, I did my best to workout a lot. All in all, it was a great and much needed break.
WEEKLY RECAP & WEEK AT A GLANCE
We begin another Manipulative Skills Unit, focusing on Basketball Dribbling and Passing. The calendar has been updated to reflect exactly what is going on the next couple of weeks, including runs and fitness days. To see what is coming up this week, check out the class CALENDAR.
WEATHER
Looks like we have a nice, non-rainy week coming up. It is still going to be a bit cold, so please make sure you wear sweats and a jacket. Please check the weekly weather HERE. Please dress accordingly.
WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
You will begin a new Unit, Manipulative Skills- basketball dribbling and throwing. I have the day to day plan mapped out on the class Google Calendar, check it out.
Also, if you want to see what Manipulative Skills are, click HERE to check out the website.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
I traditionally like to run the Mile Run after you get from break to see where your fitness level is. For those of you that went skiing, hiking, rode your bikes, ran and were generally active over the break should do pretty well. Those of you that sat and played computer games and spent your time being pretty Sedentary (remember this Word of the Week in the past), you will more than likely struggle. Be prepared to run the Mile on Wed/Thurs.
WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
Monday is BFC #3. Be ready to work hard for the Bear Fitness Challenge. For this challenge, you will be required to take your pulse after each activity. You will need your score sheets updated and ready to go.
IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
There might be. There is nothing assigned yet. If I post an assignment, I will be sure to announce it in class.
ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK
No, nothing is due.
EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS
For any extra credit assignments that you would like to do, please go to the extra credit page. There are little, medium and large assignments that you can choose from.
EXERCISE OF THE WEEK
For those of you pretty good at push-ups this is a good exercise of the week video to challenge your push uping ability. For those of you that are not that good at push-ups, you can try this from the modified position. Check out this video to see what an "explosive push-up" looks like. Practice these and if you can perform AT LEAST 5 of these with perfect form in front of me (brunch or lunch), I will give you a few extra credit points toward your participation grade.
Check out the video of an explosive push-up HERE.
ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
My goal is to continue to keep focusing on our warm-up and stretching to begin our classes. Stretch groups will have to come up with dynamic movements and static stretching. Here is a good article on Stretching. See if you can use any of these ideas when you lead stretches for the class. If you write a one page summary of this article, I will give you 5 extra credit points.
YOUR WORD OF THE WEEK (WOW)

There are no more WOW's posted this quarter. However, there will NOT BE a WOW paragraph this quarter. These words will be added on to the 3rd quarter words and you will write a paragraph combining 8-10 words instead of 5. I'll announce in class. Check out your WOW HERE.
