Week of 1/14/13-1/18/13 (2nd Quarter -Week 10)

6th Graders,

Go NINERS.  What a game last night.  They definitely look the best team left in the playoffs.  I can't wait for next Sunday when they take on the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta.  How many of you are 49er fans?

Anyway, back to school stuff.  This is your last week of the quarter, week #10.  If you have any extra credit, make up runs, etc, they all need to be completed by Thursday.  I WILL NOT except anything on Friday.  Please come and see me if you are not quite sure what you might be missing.

WEEKLY RECAP & WEEK AT A GLANCE
We are in our second week of Basketball Manipulative Skills.  We will focus on passing this week.  To see what is coming up this week, check out the class  CALENDAR.

WEATHER
It looks like a cold week.  Please read below for the PE Uniform policy blurb.  Please check the weekly weather HERE.  Please dress accordingly.

PE UNIFORM POLICY
In the cold winter months when you need to wear sweats and jackets to PE, it is important that you understand the policy.  This is really a reminder since most (if not all) of you already know this.  It is ok to wear sweats of any color and any type as long as THEY ARE ONLY USED FOR PE and not worn around school as your clothes for the day.  Also, you can wear a jacket or sweatshirt, as long as your PE shirt is on underneath.  You are NOT allowed to wear jeans under your PE short b/c it is cold, you will get marked down and it will be counted as not dressing.  Please make sure that you prepare by packing a winter PE uniform for the next few weeks.  Check weather as well.

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
You will begin a new Unit, Manipulative Skills- basketball dribbling and throwing.  I have the day to day plan mapped out on the class Google Calendar, check it out.

Also, if you want to see what Manipulative Skills are, click HERE to check out the website.

If you want to see what Units you will be doing for the year, click HERE.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
We will not have a run this week.  You will have a Fitness Day on Monday and then a PE 101 lesson on Wed/Thursday during the block period.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
I am scheduled for the gym tomorrow.  Not sure what we will do yet.  Be ready for anything.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
No, nothing is assigned.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK
No, nothing is due.

EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS
For any extra credit assignments that you would like to do, please go to the extra credit page.  There are little, medium and large assignments that you can choose from.

EXERCISE OF THE WEEK
We have been doing quite a bit of these in both our workouts and as part of our dynamic warm-ups.  This is a good video of how to do a jumping (plyometric) lunge.  Watch how she explains and does these and then practice these.  These lunges are fantastic for building muscular endurance and strength in your legs as well as getting your Heart Rate up for improving your cardiovascular fitness.  In my opinion, this is one of the best bodyweight exercises that you can do.

Check out the video of an explosive push-up HERE.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
No AOW this week, sorry.  I know you love to read these.  I'll have something good next week, I promise.

YOUR WORD OF THE WEEK (WOW)
There are no more WOW's posted this quarter.  However, there will NOT BE  a WOW paragraph this quarter.  These words will be added on to the 3rd quarter words and you will write a paragraph combining 8-10 words instead of 5.  I'll announce in class.   Check out your WOW HERE.
