Week of 2/7/11-2/11/11 (3Q- Week 4)

6th Graders,

Wow, the 4th week of the 3rd quarter. It is almost deficiency notice time. I will have all grades entered this week and your Pinnacle grade will be accurate by Thursday.

WEEK RECAP.....
Last week we focused our attention on PE 101 and Fitness Testing. On Monday, we reviewed the Fitness Components and Heart Rate Relay Race and some of the PE 101 worksheets that we had worked on in the past, all in the rock wall. On Tuesday, we did the 2 minute Jump Rope and Bleacher Step test as well as the 1 minute Tricep Dip test. On Wednesday, we did the mile run (the fitness testing mile) of which most of the students improved and set their personal bests (congratulations). On Thursday, we continued with fitness testing by doing the push-up test, plank pose and wall sit tests. We will continue with the fitness testing this week by completing the flexibility and pull up tests. On Friday, we did the infamous ABC Workout in the gym.

You need to fill out the MILE RUN LOG for last week's run. This is the only online log you are responsible for filling out.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
Yes, you will have HW #2 posted this week. HW #2 is completing the PE 101 pages 17 and 18 in your PE 101 Packet. We will discuss these worksheets on Wednesday during class. If you want to see helpful online tutorial videos to get a "sneak" peak of what these worksheets look like and what you will be required to do, you can watch these:
ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
Yes, you need to figure out your BMI and record it on page 2-2 in your Sportfolio. You can find your BMI at this LINK.

Aside from my Extra Credit Page with has quite a bit of assignments, I did assign that you video yourself and a family member doing one of the 6 lines dances taught to you in class. A link to purchasing the music has been provided on the line dance page. Please video about 2 minutes or more of the dance (preferably w/ the music).

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
As we continue our theme of nutrition this quarter, I am going to try and provide your with a lot of helpful resources to make better decisions about what you eat. Here is a good article about foods that help you lose stomach fat. Not all of these articles are necessarily the true way it is, but rather, they provide their own perspective. You should read these articles and ask yourself, Do I agree with this or not? I have a good extra credit assignment related to your AOW, check it out HERE.

DID YOU KNOW (DYK)
Did you know:
1. An average man has enough energy in his fat stores to run non-stop for 3 days at 15 miles per hour.
2.13.2 to 17.3 percent of all running injuries have been attributed to shin splints
3.Physically active people have a 60 percent lower risk for Alzheimer's disease than coach potatoes
4.One hour of jogging burns 500 calories.
