6th Graders,
Finally, your first blog of the 3rd Quarter. Sorry that I have not sent one out in a couple of weeks. Anyway, congratulations on a successful finish to the Line Dance Unit.
WEEK RECAP.....
Last week was the final week of Line Dance with testing on Tuesday and Thursday. On Tuesday, students tested on the Electric Slide, Boot Scootin' Boogie and Men in Black and on Thursday; Wild-Wild-West, Who Let Dogs Out and Alenalul. All of you did a fantastic job. Grades will be entered in Pinnacle soon. Come and see me if you want to see what you got. On Wednesday, we did the Pedometer Run and on Friday we did a learning relay race on Friday where students were placed in teams, had to race out to collect cards and then match their definitions and answer some questions related to the 5 Fitness Components and Heart Rate concepts. All groups did a great job.
Please film yourself dancing any one of the 6 line dances with a family member and then get the movie file to me for a good chunk of extra credit. I have loved the ones that I have received so far and am excited to see more. A link to iTunes for each song has been provided on the Line Dance Page.

LINE DANCE
I recorded a lot of good video footage throughout the testing. I am in the process of making a quick iMovie to showcase the dancing. I hope to be done this week. When it is finished, it will be posted on the line dance page and password protected. I am also going to plan on making an iMovie of all the family line dance extra credit videos as well as soon they have all been turned in. Please share these videos with family members.
WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
We just finished a 4 week dance unit and on Monday will be starting a quick 3 week (9 day) unit combing Fitness Testing and PE 101. We will be in the rock wall a few of the days and outside on the blacktop for the rest.
For fitness testing, you will be doing a 2 minute jump rope, 2 minute bleacher steps, 1 minute tricep dip, push up test, plank hold, etc. I will go over all the activities before we start the testing.
WHAT UNIT IS COMING UP NEXT?
Track and Field at the end of February.
WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
On Wednesday, you will have another mile run. This mile is important because it will be used for the mid-year fitness testing. YOu will end up comparing your Fall Mile Run to this one. Please take it seriously and expect to run at 100%.
WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
I am scheduled for the gym, therefore, I think you will have the ABC workout, although, this could change depending on how much progress we make this week.DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR E-RUN LOG?
For the remainder of the year, you will no longer be responsible for filling out online run logs EXCEPT for the Mile Run. I will remind you after all mile runs to fill out the log.DO NOT fill one out for the Partner Mile.
IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
Yes, your first homework assignment of the quarter is posted on the 6th Grade Homework Page. This assignment requires that you take home some of your PE 101 handouts from Tab 3 home, so please remember to get them out of your Sportfolio.
ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
No, there are not assignments due this week. Everything that will be due we will start in class. There will be quite a bit of PE 101 worksheets due in the next 2 weeks.
Aside from my Extra Credit Page with has quite a bit of assignments, I did assign that you video yourself and a family member doing one of the 6 lines dances taught to you in class. A link to purchasing the music has been provided on the line dance page. Please video about 2 minutes or more of the dance (preferably w/ the music).
ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
This quarter, I will be emphasizing nutrition a lot. IN fact, every WOW will pertain to nutrition concepts and you will have a big Nutrition Project this quarter. Therefore, it is important to read as much as you can about nutrition whenever you have the chance. This article is titled, "The 20 Newest Worst Foods in America". Have you ever had any of these? Think twice next time.
