Week of 11/02/09-11/06/09 (2Q-Week 2)

6th Graders,

For those of you that celebrate, I hope you had a nice and safe Halloween. Be careful, don't eat too much of that Candy at once.

Anyway, we are in our second week of the new quarter. Most of you still have an A because we stared over. Keep up the good work.

WEEK AT A GLANCE
Mon- Manipulative Skills (see below)
Tuesday- Manipulative Skills
Wednesday- Run Day (see below)
Thursday- Manipulative Skills
Friday- Fitness Day (see below)

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
We will be starting our 3rd week of Manipulative Skills as well as a new rotation. For 3rd and 5th period, those of you that were with Mrs. Button for underhand, will now be with me for overhand throwing. For those of you in 4th period, you will be getting underhand throwing. The format will be very similar to the way it was on the other rotation.

The main objective of manipulative skills is for you to understand and apply the appropriate cues to perform the specific manipulative skill. Watching yourself on video is by far one of the most effective methods to achieve this.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
Our run this week is the "Figure 8" run. Goal for 6th graders is to complete AT LEAST 3 Figure 8's. To read more detail about this run, click here.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
We are scheduled for the Gym for the ABC workout. It has been a while since we have pushed ourselves in a fitness day, be prepared.

DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR E-LOGS?
e-Run Log: Yes, you need to fill it out for the Partner Mile. If you can't remember your time, please ask me on Monday so that you can fill it out appropriately.

e-Fitness Log: You DO NOT have to fill it out because of Halloween being a "free play" day.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
No, no homework was assigned this week. Last week however, the Stretch Deck assignment was posted and discussed. Click here to get the assignment (look in the box called 2nd Quarter).

Next week, your PE 101 packet will be due. Every worksheet will need to be completed and filled out. I will also be posting a PE 101 study guide in next week's Blog because you will be having a big test on PE 101 key concepts.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
1. No. Your Stretch Deck Assignment is due on November 11th. Hope you are having run with it. Remember, you can come and see me to get the cards.

EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS
Keep looking on the Extra Credit page, there will be assignments posted there early in the 2nd quarter.

A) Make a Mixed Fitness Music CD = 10 points toward Fitness Grade.
Follow the requirements below:
*Every song has to be middle school appropriate-no swear words and no controversial
content.
*The CD has to have AT LEAST 20 songs
*Music has to be be up-tempo and up-beat (slow songs are not good for pumping people
up while working out). Use songs that you and classmates would have fun working out to.
*Make sure the songs are from different artists

B) Adding extra cards to your project
Read the Stretch Deck Assignment to read about how to earn extra credit. It is pretty easy.
