Week of 2/24/14-2/28/14 (3nd Quarter- Week 5)

6th Graders,

I hope that you have enjoyed your week long break.  Did you go anywhere special?  Did you get a lot of time to relax?  Did you stay active?  Eat well?  Anyway, prepare to share some of your stories on Monday.  Week 5 begins....

BLOG FORM
This is a quick reminder to please fill out the form at the end of this blog after you finish reading it.  Not filling out the form will lead to a loss of participation points.

WEEKEND PUSH-UP CHALLENGE
I have moved away from this and am bringing it back strong for the 3rd quarter.  You were doing well with this.  We are going back to 5/day everyday.  I am hoping to get the jump ropes out there as well and complete the 1 Minute Challenges.

WEEKLY RECAP & WEEK AT A GLANCE
We wrapped up the Pedometer Unit a week ago and we are not beginning the Track and Field Unit.  This Unit is going to be a month.  I love this unit and there is a ton to learn.  To see which track and field events we will be learning in class, click this  CALENDAR to find out.  It is your responsibility to be prepared.

PARENT FITNESS BOOTCAMP NIGHT!!!
I handed out a flyer for you to give to your parents.  I have received emails from some of your parents saying that they want to attend.  Please show them the flyer if you haven't and put some pressure on them to attend.  It will be good for them.  It is Thursday, March 13th and Thursday March 27th from 6-7pm at the CMS Gym.  Have them send me an EMAIL if they are interested at sickler_judson@cusdk8.org.

WEATHER
There is a bunch of rain forecasted for this week.  Expect some PE 101 and Fit In 15 Workouts!!!  Please check weekly weather HERE
WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
Finally, we are in Track and Field.  I love this unit and for 9 years, this has been one of the students favorite units.  There are a ton of options that range from Sprinting to High Jump to Shot Put.  What are the all the events that we do in Middle School Track and Field?  Which one do you think you will be best at?  What are the school records?  Click HERE to answer all of these questions.  I am going to expect that can explain what some of the events are during class.

The 6th Grade Calendar has the entire unit mapped out.  I have left the block periods wide open for run and fitness days and also some extra Track and Field stuff.  If you want to see what we are doing on what days, please go to the calendar.  Which event are we doing first?  When are we doing High Jump?  When do we get to sprint?  These are always common questions.  Find out for yourself, look at the calendar.

WHAT UNIT IS NEXT?
I am not sure yet.  Too soon to decide.  It is 5 weeks away.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
Not sure.  I may incorporate a Track and Field Run.  More than likely we will have the 2 Mile Run coming up.  To read about the different types of runs, click HERE.

RUNNING CLUB
Running Club is going to meet this Thursday.  If you need to make up a run and/or want to get some extra credit, show up and rack up those miles.
WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
No idea.

KIDSHEALTH ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
There is no AOW this week.

YOUR WORD OF THE WEEK (WOW)
What is Word of the Week (WOW)?  Word of the week is a word that I post on the WOW page on my website.  If you click on the word, it takes you to a definition of that word.  You will receive 4-6 words/quarter.  At the end of each quarter, you will use each of these words in a paragraph.  You WILL NOT use each word in a paragraph, but, only write ONE paragraph using all of the words.  This assignment is restricted to ONE paragraph only.  The goal is to not literally DEFINE the words, but, rather, use them in context in a paragraph in a creative story demonstrating to me that you know what the word means without telling me what the word means.

You WILL NOT have a WOW paragraph assignment in the 2nd quarter.  My goal is to have you do it for the 3rd quarter.  I'll announce it if you do.

FILL OUT THIS FORM PLEASE TO LET ME KNOW THAT YOU READ THE BLOG!!!
