Week of 1/27/14-1/31/14 (3nd Quarter- Week 2)

6th Graders,

Congratulations to most of you for finishing your Line Dance Assessment.  Overall, I was very impressed with the work that you all put into the unit.  It showed in the final dances.  There were some of you unprepared and it was obvious that you didn't put in the time, but, a majority of you were fantastic.  Well Done.  

BLOG FORM
This is a quick reminder to please fill out the form at the end of this blog after you finish reading it.  Not filling out the form will lead to a loss of participation points.

WEEKEND PUSH-UP CHALLENGE
I have moved away from this and am bringing it back strong for the 3rd quarter.  You were doing well with this.  We are going back to 5/day everyday.  I am hoping to get the jump ropes out there as well and complete the 1 Minute Challenges. 

WEEKLY RECAP & WEEK AT A GLANCE
I am going to out all day on Tuesday and half day on Friday, both for professional development meetings.  Tuesday will be Line Dance practice all period and I think that Friday will be as well.  To see what we did last week and what we plan to do this week, click this  CALENDAR to check it all out.  It is your responsibility to be prepared.  

PARENT FITNESS BOOTCAMP NIGHT!!!
Please tell you parents to mark their calendars for two Parent Fitness Bootcamp nights in out gym on Thursday nights, March 13th and March 27th from 6-7pm.  If you parent(s) are interested in attending, please have them email me at sickler_judson@cusdk8.org.  I will have a flyer on Tuesday to give you to take home as well.

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
Monday we are wrapping up testing for a couple of classes.  As far as the other classes, I am not sure yet what we will be doing.  Maybe a pedometer challenge with the dances or something.  

Starting Tuesday, we will officially be in a new unit for the next 3 weeks.  I have the blacktop area so we will have a Pedometer Fitness/Challenge unit.  Basically, I will be designing a bunch of different activities that will incorporate the use of a pedometer.  The goal is introduce you to all of the benefits of using a pedometer and teach you how it can be incorporated into everyday activities.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
We are going to have a team Pedometer Variety run this week.  I will make score sheets and we will be adding up total steps from the entire team.  Next week, will have the Pedometer RunTo read about the different types of runs, click HERE.

RUNNING CLUB 
Running Club is going to meet this Thursday.  If you need to make up a run and/or want to get some extra credit, show up and rack up those miles.  
WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
Our Fitness Activities are going to be woven in throughout this entire 3 week unit.  You will have a few circuits.  Most of them are going to be pedometer related.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
No, not homework this week.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
No, nothing is due.

I am putting a lot of effort into making a new series of 15 minute Home Workout Videos called "Fit In 15."  They are perfect to use when you have a busy schedule and/or want to cross train for another sport.   Please subscribe to my YouTube channel and look for the newest Fit In 15 videos to be posted.  To see the latest Fit In 15, watch the video below.

Extra Credit:  There is a Fit In 15 Extra Credit Assignment posted on the Extra Credit page under "Little" Assignments.  Click HERE to check out the assignment.  Fill out this sheet and you will get extra credit.  Make sure that you have this sheet with you while you are doing the Fit In 15 workout b/c you have to keep track of your reps.

KIDSHEALTH ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
With the end of the quarter approaching and many of you feel the pressure of having to have good grades along with impressing teachers, parents and friends, it is natural for this to be a stressful time.  This is a good article about stress.  Remember, there is an extra credit assignment you can do for the AOWs.  

YOUR WORD OF THE WEEK (WOW)
What is Word of the Week (WOW)?  Word of the week is a word that I post on the WOW page on my website.  If you click on the word, it takes you to a definition of that word.  You will receive 4-6 words/quarter.  At the end of each quarter, you will use each of these words in a paragraph.  You WILL NOT use each word in a paragraph, but, only write ONE paragraph using all of the words.  This assignment is restricted to ONE paragraph only.  The goal is to not literally DEFINE the words, but, rather, use them in context in a paragraph in a creative story demonstrating to me that you know what the word means without telling me what the word means.  

You WILL NOT have a WOW paragraph assignment in the 2nd quarter.  My goal is to have you do it for the 3rd quarter.  I'll announce it if you do.
