Week of 4/9/12-4/13/12 (4Q-Week 2)

6th Graders,

Happy Easter and Happy Passover. What a big weekend. Hopefully you are getting good family time and enjoying the beautiful weather. This is the perfect weekend to get outside and be active (hike, bike ride, run, etc.)

WEEKLY RECAP & WEEK AT A GLANCE
Last week our focus was on Overhand Throwing. Monday and Tuesday you threw with implements (TrackBall and HiLi Scoops). Wednesday was using Throwing to generate different levels of force with your body. Thursday, I had a sub and he did the Figure 8 run. Friday we finished the Rock Wall 20 Station Fitness Circuit.

WEATHER
Strangely, after this beautiful weekend, looks like a full week of light rain and showers. Dress warm. Check the weekly weather HERE.

DUE TUESDAY- READ TO SEE WHAT IS DUE
Go to this 6th Grade Assignment Blog and respond to the question in the Blog. You need to complete this by the end of day on Tuesday.

MILE & 2 MILE MAKE-UP RUN
I do not have a run scheduled yet. I will let you know when I do.

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
This week, we are going to focus on Underhand Throwing. Check out the Manipulative Skills page HERE.

WHAT UNIT IS COMING UP NEXT?
The week after Spring Break is going to be when we start the Tumbling Unit. For a lot of you, you will do well in the unit and for many of you, you will struggle. We are in the process of changing/adding/enhancing some of the skills required in the unit, however, rolls are a very big component of the unit. Please watch this Tumbling Introductory Video to get a feel of what the unit will be like. Also, click on this LINK to check out the the Tumbling page along with the Tumbling Instructional Videos at the bottom.
WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
Wednesday will be Run For Your Life. This is a super duper fun run. YOu will love it.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
We are scheduled for the Multi-Use Room. If the weather is nice, I may move it outside.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
Yes, you read about the Tumbling Unit above in the blog and go watch the introductory video and also navigate the Tumbling page and get familiar with what you will need to learn.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
Here is a good Yahoo fitness article on what they believe to be the best 9 best fitness moves of all time. You should do these at home and see what you think. Build a fitness routine using these for yourself. Are any of these in the Bear Fit Challenge?

I am going to grade the 3rd Quarter WOWs this week and post the All Stars on the page the following week (Spring Break).

    The purpose of the Rockwall Fitness, was to work different muscles of your body, know what they are, and identify what fitness component they work. In every activity we did we had to work a different muscle and identify what muscle it is. We also had to identify what fitness component we are working in every activity. We also practiced taking heart rate.

  5. I LOVE ROCK CLIMBING AND THE GAME WE DID TODAY :D
    so much fun. I learned that it helps to stand on a foothold instead of gripping onto one with two hands. We should do this game more often!! I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow. I hear run for Your Life is really fun!..

    I think the point of the fitness circuit was to know what muscles you are working. It was also meant to identify the fitness component used. This was mainly to learn and do exercise at the same time.

    I think the purpose of the Rock Wall Fitness Circuit was to exercise different muscles, and name them. We also needed to see what fitness component was used in that activity.In addition, we saw what activities made our heart rate go up, or go down.

  11. The rock wall activity was to use all the muscles in your body. Also, it was for using team work to get to the center.
