Week of 3/5/12-3/9/12 (3Q- Week 6)

6th Graders,

WEEKLY RECAP & WEEK AT A GLANCE
Well, we made it through your 1st week of Track and Field. On Monday we did Long Jump and Tuesday we did Triple Jump. Wednesday was a PE 101 Jeopardy Game to review key concepts. Thursday we got in the pit and actually did Triple Jump. Friday was the department wide 800 meter race.

MILE & 2 MILE MAKE-UP RUN
We had the make up run this past Friday. The next one is going to be on Friday March 16th after school.

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
We are still in Track and Field. This week's featured events will be Hurdles (one day), Discus (2 days) and the 1600m (mile) Run. Check out the Track and Field page to see what Hurdles and Discus look like.

EYO INFORMATION
My goal is to have all the EYO projects graded and handed out on Wednesday. I have to grade over 170 of them so I will be hard at work the next couple of days. I want to thank those of you who did them.

WHAT UNIT IS COMING UP NEXT?
Our next unit is going to be a Throwing Manipulative Skills Unit. We will focus on Overhand, Underhand and Sidearm Throwing. Included in this unit will be catching as well. To check out more about Manipulative Skills, click HERE.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
On Friday we will have the 1600m Run (a fancy way of saying the mile). Be ready. For this run you will be required to fill out your Sportfolio and be assessed according to the mile rubric.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
I am not sure what we will be doing for Fitness this week. Because I lost a day for Hurdles, I may have a hurdles relay race be our fitness day. I will keep you posted.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
No.

LAST MINUTE REMINDERS
-Be ready for the mile run on Friday.
-Look at the Hurdle and Discus videos to get a good visual of what you will be required to do.

    I think the purpose of the 20 fitness circuit was to provide a fitness activity with a varied amount of activities. Instead of just exercising one muscle group, this activity enabled us to use all UE and LE muscles. it was more fun, challenging, and benifical this way.
