6th Graders,

WEEK RECAP.....
This was a great week. We started the week with a Zamzee presentation on Monday. Tuesday, we continued in our Jump Rope unit by going over the Benefits of Jump Roping Article, speed challenge and heart rate and rep graphs. We also went over all the Learning Targets. Wednesday we had our 2nd mile run of the year and many of you received 2 extra credit points for improving, congratulations. Thursday we continued working on the 5 Basic/required skills for Jump Roping. Friday was the ABC Workout in the gym for our fitness day.

WEEK AT A GLANCE
Check out your Google Calendar to see what is going on this week.

WEATHER
This week's forecast is for beautiful weather in the 70's. Check out the details HERE.

MILE & 2 MILE MAKE-UP RUN
The next one is scheduled for Friday, November 4th.

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
We have 2 weeks (6 days) left of Jump Rope. This week I plan to introduce the Intermediate and Advanced Skills and help you prepare to practice for your skills practice. Please continue to watch the videos and get as much practice as you can. All videos can be found HERE.

JUMP ROPE EXTRA CREDIT
I love to get your family involved in what we are doing in PE, so, I am offering a great opportunity to earn 10 extra credit points. You need to teach a family member (younger or older sibling, parent, grandparent, cousin, aunt/uncle, etc.) 3 of our 5 required basic skills. After they have practiced and learned the skills, film them for 30 seconds. They will do 10 seconds of each skill. Bring that video clip to me on a flash drive/CD/DVD or email and I will give you 10 extra credit points. The family member DOES NOT have to be an expert, they just have to put in the effort. Have fun teaching them the skill and bring me some good video clips.

WHAT UNIT IS COMING UP NEXT?
We will have our 1st Manipulative Skills unit of the year, either basketball skills or volleyball skills. To check out what Manipulative Skills are all about, click HERE.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
My crazy mind has invented a new run called the "Popsicle Run" which I have never done before. I am still not sure how I am going to work it out, but, expect some type of run where you collect popsicle sticks.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
I am not sure what our Fitness Activity will be this week. My rotation is the Multi Use and I am not sure that I will be using it or not. There is a chance that we might do an academic PE 101 lesson since I still have a couple of topics to cover.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
No, nothing is assigned.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK
No, nothing is due this week.

EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS
I have a fantastic Heart Rate & Pedometer Assignment available for extra credit. Check them out, they will earn you 20 points. They both take about a month to complete. I have all kinds of other Extra Credit available in my class as well. Check out the Extra Credit pageto check them out.....

ARTICLE OF THE WEEK (AOW)
I think it is fantastic to see how many students at our school bike to school. Biking is a fantastic form of exercise and is so good for the environment. However, biking can be dangerous of you don't follow some simple rules and guidelines. Here is a good article that discusses Bicycle Safety. If you happen to be one of those that ride your bike to school, please read this article and see if you follow the same guidelines.

DID YOU KNOW (DYK)
DYK a cough releases an explosive charge of air that moves at 60 MPH and a sneeze exceeds 100 MPH.

LAST MINUTE REMINDERS
Practice your Jump Roping skills...know the 5 basic skills and start practicing those intermediate skills.
YOUR WORD OF THE WEEK (WOW)

No WOW this week. Your WOW #1 for the 2nd quarter will be posted next week.
