9/28/09-10/02/09 (Week 7)

6th Graders,

I hope that all of you have had a chance to check out your grades. For the most part, my 6th graders are doing well. There are several of you however that are not filling out e-Run logs. Please complete these on a weekly basis. If you have questions on how to fill them out and where to find them, please come see me at lunch or brunch. I have added a new section below called, "Extra Credit". Please read through it.

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
We start our cooperative, folk dance called, Tinikling. Please read through your Tinikling Handouts as well as watch some of the videos on your "Check out these videos to give you background" section on your Tinikling Overview handout. It will really help you get prepared for this unit.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
We will be doing our 3rd testing run of the quarter, the Pedometer Run. It would be a good idea to read about pedometers at this link to give you some background. What is the Pedometer Run? Click here to find out.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
We will be doing our PE 101, Heart Rate Intensity lesson. We will learn how to take our pulse, what HR means and how HR applies to activity levels. Hopefully many of you will learn something new.

DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR E-LOGS?
Remember, you now only have one week to fill out your logs.
e-Run Log: No log required this week. We did not have a run day.
e-Fitness Log: You need to fill it out for the ABC Workout, due on 10/1.

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
No, there will not be homework assigned this week unless we can not complete a PE 101 worksheet in class.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
Yes, the following assignments are due this week:
1. You need to find your BMI. If you print out the page with your BMI, you will receive 5 extra credit points.

2. You need to complete your Perfect Push-up Worksheet and then come test at brunch on Monday-Thursday or Lunch on Tuesday or Thursday.

3. Your Sportsmanship Education Worksheets are due on Monday, 9/28. I will check to see if they are completed during class.

EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS
-Soon, I will be posting several extra credit opportunities on my Extra Credit page on my website, but, in the meantime, there are 2 assignments available to you now.
-Print out your BMI page from the website above = 5 points toward your PE 101 grade
-Make a Mixed Fitness Music CD = 10 points toward Fitness Grade.
Follow the requirements below:
*Every song has to be middle school appropriate-no swear words and no controversial
content.
*The CD has to have AT LEAST 20 songs
*Music has to be be up-tempo and up-beat (slow songs are not good for pumping people
up while working out). Use songs that you and classmates would have fun working out to.
*Make sure the songs are from different artists

ANNOUNCEMENTS/REMINDERS
Fill out your e-Run and e-Fitness Logs.
Get your BMI.
Complete your PE 101 worksheets for Importance of PE and Sportsmanship Education.
Keep filling out your WOW sheet.
