Week of 8/31/09-9/4/09- Week 3

6th Graders,

I can't believe it, we are actually going to start our first full week together as a class. I am looking forward to it. Here is a quick glance at our week:
Monday- Capture the Flag
Tuesday- Stretching Groups/Warm-up Routine
Wednesday-Run Day (see below)
Thursday- Pedometer Lesson
Friday- Rob the Nest Fitness Day

WHAT UNIT ARE WE IN?
We are continuing with Cooperative Games and PE 101. Cooperative Games is a unit intended to build teamwork, trust, cooperation and sportsmanship. We will do various Trust and Strategy activities to help build class chemistry. PE 101 is a more academic curriculum where you will learn key Physical Education and Fitness concepts like sportsmanship, fitness components, training principles, Heart Rate analysis, etc. Alot of your PE 101 lessons will be done in a "classroom" environment. You will have a PE 101 packet to print out sometime next week. I will announce it when it is ready.

WHAT IS OUR RUN THIS WEEK?
On Wednesday, you will be running the MILE. I want to get a good baseline of where your fitness is and what types of improvement we are looking for. Give your best effort. The weather is predicted to be in the low 80's. Be sure you bring a water bottle to school and hydrate. Most students should be able to the complete the mile between 8-10 minutes. Several will finish before that and a few after that. Please do your best. The mile is a great way for me to get an idea of your cardiovascular fitness. Descriptions of all my runs can be found at this link. We will together in class to fill out your graphs in your Sportfolio.

WHAT FITNESS ACTIVITY ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
We will be playing a fun game called Rob the Nest on Friday.

DID YOU FILL OUT YOUR E-LOGS?

IS HOMEWORK ASSIGNED THIS WEEK?
No, there is no homework assigned this week.

ARE THERE ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THIS WEEK?
No, not this week.
